The Story of GAZA – Israeli Palestinian conflict
The Israel – Palestinian conflict widely referred to as the world’s “most intractable conflict” of recent times is the age’s long ongoing struggle between the Jews of Israel and the Arabs of Palestine. The actual origin is estimated to start from the earlier sectarian conflict in Mandatory Palestine which happened between the Zionist Yishuv and the Arab population under the British rule.

After World War II and the Hitler’s Holocaust in which six million Jewish people were killed in Germany and other neighboring countries, more Jewish people wanted their own country and flew to the current state of Israel, which they considered their homeland also referring as the land of Zion.

The Refugee Jews were given a large part of Palestine, which they considered their traditional home but the Arabs who already lived there and in neighboring countries felt that was unfair and didn’t accept the new country.

In 1948, the two sides went to war. When it ended, Gaza was controlled by Egypt and another area, the West Bank, by Jordan. They contained thousands of Palestinians who fled what was now the new Jewish home, Israel. In 1948, the country formally adopted the name “State of Israel” with Jerusalem as the national capital whose ethnic ratio consisted of 75.3% Jewish and 20.7% Arab.

There were many attempt made later to establish peace between the two groups, involving the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside the State of Israel (after Israel’s establishment in 1948) but despite the best efforts made by US, UN, Israel, Egypt and Jordan, Israelis and Palestinians have failed to reach a final peace agreement. The main remaining issues are: mutual recognition, borders, land & water rights, security, control of Jerusalem, Israeli settlements, Palestinian freedom of movement, and resolving Palestinian claims of a right of return for their refugees. The violence of the conflict, in a region rich in sites of historic, cultural and religious interest worldwide, has been the object of numerous international conferences dealing with historic rights, security issues and human rights, and has been a factor hampering tourism in and general access to areas that are hotly contested.

In the year 1967, after another war, Israel occupied many Palestinian areas and Israeli troops stayed there for years. The Israelis hoped they might exchange the land they won for Arab countries recognizing Israel’s right to exist and an end to the fighting. Considering it, Israel finally left Gaza in 2005 but soon after, a radical Islamic group called Hamas won elections and took control there. Today, much of the world calls Hamas a terrorist organization. It refuses to recognize Israel as a country and wants Palestinians to be able to return to their old home – and will use violence to achieve its aims.

Since then, Israel has held Gaza under a blockade by controlling its coastline and all the entry and exit crossings into Israel. There is no working airport, just a small crossing point into Egypt which connects Gaza to the world from where they get all their basic necessary goods. Because access is so restricted, not many goods get into or out of Gaza. Food is allowed in, but aid agencies say families are not eating as much meat or fresh vegetables and fruit as they used to. There are often power cuts. In Short, Life for the many of the 1.5 million Palestinians who live in the Gaza Strip is difficult.

Within Palestinian and Israeli society, the conflict generates a wide variety of views and opinions. The level of violence has always maintained with riots and fighting between the regular armies, paramilitary groups, terror cells, and individuals. Casualties have not been restricted to the military, with a large number of fatalities in civilian population on both sides. The two parties which are engaged in direct negotiation are the Israeli government and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). The official negotiations are mediated by an international contingent known as the Quartet on the Middle East (the Quartet) represented by a special envoy that consists of the United States, Russia, the European Union, and the United Nations. The Arab League is another important actor, which has proposed an alternative peace plan. Egypt, a founding member of the Arab League, has historically been a key participant.

Another major concern the Palestinians are facing is the conflict between the two major parties: Fatah, the traditionally dominant party, and its later electoral challenger, Hamas. After Hamas’s electoral victory in the year 2006 the US, EU, and Israel refused to recognize its government and much of the funding to the Palestinian National Authority was suspended. A year later, following Hamas’ seizure of power in the Gaza Strip in June 2007, the territory officially recognized as the State of Palestine (former Palestinian National Authority – the Palestinian interim governing body) is split between Fatah in the West Bank, and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The division of governance between the parties has become the main reason in the collapse of bipartisan governance of the Palestinian National Authority (PA). The latest round of peace negotiations began in July 2013 but were suspended in 2014. As of 17 July 2014, intensified, widespread rocket attacks emanating from Gaza have led to a ground invasion by the Israel Defense Forces.

Beached and docked fishing boats in Wadi Gaza and Gaza port, unable to fish as they used to in Gaza’s waters due to Zionist navy attacks on fishers.
Both sides have their own set of stories. The peace process by various other countries, particularly America, have worked hard to settle the fighting between the Arabs and Israelis but so far nothing has worked. Many people want Gaza and the West Bank to be turned into a new country – Palestine. Israel won’t agree to this unless it feels safe – and Hamas accepts its right to exist. The other sticking points are what will happen to Israelis who’ve settled in the West Bank, who will run Jerusalem and what will happen to the Palestinian refugees.

Videos Showing Each The Israel & Palestine Side of the Story

As Per Video Author: The Middle East conflict is framed as one of the most complex problems in the world. But, in reality, it’s very simple. Israelis want to live in peace and are willing to accept a neighboring Palestinian state. And most Palestinians do not want Israel to exist. As Dennis Prager explains, this is really all you need to know. In 5 minutes, understand how Israel was founded, and how, since that auspicious day in 1948, its neighbors have tried to destroy it, again and again.

As Per Video Author: One production which shows the reality of life in the gaza strip. Watch this documentary to see the other side of what the mainstream media exposes you to. The suffering of the common Palestinians and their kids because of the oppressive policies of Israel is here shown through the perspective of children. This kind of treatment meted out to occupied helpless Arabs by a people who themselves suffered terribly under Hitler makes you think what makes them forget their own suffering in the Holocaust when it comes to dealing with the Arabs.
